STATEMENT
My name is Madeleine Froncek, and I am writing to express my enthusiasm for the “One Year of Filmmaking” course. Last fall, I relocated to Barcelona from Austin, Texas, where I spent the past decade immersed in the vibrant music scene. Primarily a bass player and songwriter, I have worked as a member of wedding and event bands, as well as playing in personal projects where I took on roles as a singer, guitarist, banjo player, and collaborative songwriter. In Austin, I dedicated myself to personal recording projects and played with numerous bands, both locally and on tours across the U.S. and internationally. Throughout these years, my interest in filmmaking and videography grew organically. I began creating music videos for my projects and for friends, finding that my passion for music seamlessly blended with visual storytelling.
In 2021, I combined my musical and visual interests in a significant project alongside my band, Ley Line. I co-created an audio-visual short film titled "We Saw Blue,” filmed over the three months we spent touring Brazil. Upon returning home, I taught myself Premiere Pro and edited the footage into a piece that marries a long-form music video with documentary elements. This project ignited my passion for film editing and inspired me to delve deeper into the field, continually refining my personal lens and voice.
Throughout the pandemic, I recorded my first solo album and have been releasing music accompanied by short-form videos that I filmed and edited. This process has been a profound learning experience, allowing me to experiment with new techniques and storytelling methods. Beyond my musical pursuits, I have a deep love for the outdoors and adventure sports. I am passionate about living harmoniously with nature and hold a strong reverence for the natural world. This connection fuels my interest in conservation work and projects that foster a closer relationship between people and the earth. I believe that an intimate relationship with nature is essential for our spiritual well-being and that it is from this connection that we draw inspiration for art, culture, and genuine human connection. As a storyteller, I hope to uplift this type of work in the world and convey this message.
My diverse background in music and my growing passion for filmmaking make me eager to expand my skills and knowledge through formal education. I am excited about the possibility of collaborating with like-minded individuals and learning from experienced mentors who can help me refine my craft. Thank you for considering my application.
